#12: “Change of things” (Week of 13th November 2023)
I had my first Interview on the 7th of November, and I learned so much! I felt pretty bad because there were some problems with the audio, so I had to take it on the phone, but other than that I think it went pretty well. I think that Dr. Michael Levin(the professor with whom I took the interview), could be one of my potential mentors. One problem though is that I think I might want to change my original work proposal. I think that bioelectricity is a great development in biomedical science, and I feel like it could take my idea further than genetics. I’m not sure whether I want to change though because I like the topic of genetics and spent a lot of time researching and learning a lot about synthetic biology and genetic sequencing. This is a weird analogy, but it feels like letting go of a childhood toy. However, this is a part of research: adapting and being fine with change. I think if I do change my topic, I will learn that it’s fine to rethink ideas let go of old ones, and look at things from a different perspective. I think after looking a bit more into bioelectricity I will change my Original work topic. Other than that, my academic competition at Irving went well, and I got a lot to learn like last time. Out of all the schools I got 5th place in science for scholastic, but I know that I could’ve done better. There were a lot of questions that I did wrong just because I did not read the paper correctly, but I will keep it in mind the next time. I learned a lot of things this week, and I, not I’m motivated to apply everything.
