#19: “Running to State” (Week of Feb 5th, 2024)

This week was kind of a lazy yet productive week. I worked a lot on economics for Acdec, yet I feel like I could’ve done more, not only in econ but also for the other guides like literature. I am close to finishing Section 2 of Economics, but with the time I had I hoped that I would complete the entire guide. Other than studying for acdec I had to practice for my choir competition, “Solo and Ensemble”. At first I was a bit scared because I stopped on one note early, and knew that I needed to take in a bit more breath, but it turns out that I got a 1(highest level) on a grade 1(highest grade) solo! This means that I am now eligible for state, and from now I’m going to try to improve the song. For now, I know that my pronunciation is fine, I just need to work a bit on memory and breathing. I’m singing an Italian song called “Per La Gloria''. I counted my points after the competition, and now I can get a letterman jacket for my senior year! I was pretty happy after realizing that, and hope I do well throughout the year.Regarding ISM, I’ve decided to publish it, based on the feedback of Dr. Michael Levin, as a preprint on OSF preprints. I’ve also asked him whether I could publish it as a “letter” in his magazine, and have asked my mentor whether he would co-author it so that I could potentially publish it somewhere else too.

Other than ISM and School, I’ve also been trying to get more disciplined with the work I do. While I could’ve done more in econ, I’ve still done something, and hopefully in the next week I’ll be able to finish the Econ guide and even do more. I decided that I needed to build my endurance because I want to participate in boxing competitions one day. So, I’ve started to wake up early in the morning and run outside. While it may sound terrible, it actually feels nice, and keeps me energized everyday. I’ve been really sticking to things that I have to do(for most of the days) remembering that, "Discipline is doing what you hate to do, but nonetheless doing it like you love it.”
