Weekly Report #22: San Antonio (Week of Feb 26th)
This week was entirely an acdec week. Me and my team went to San Antonio for the Acdec state competition, and it was extremely fun. Before the competition, we went to the library and we all sang songs in the car like Jenny from the block and Brittney Spears. Right Before we left for the competition, we did Roar the Rock and we joked about that a lot. In San Antonio, I lived with my friends Esha, and Navya. We had a great time as we practiced our speech. My speech was about Babies being spies. For the actual speech event, I made the strict teacher laugh too, and I thought I did really well. I missed a great opportunity for my impromptu speech because I couldn't think of it at that moment, so I kind of messed up on it, but it’s fine. I got 835 out of 1000, which is not that bad, but I think that if I had calmed down a bit for impromptu I could’ve gotten better. Although, I definitely improved a lot. Last year I did so badly in speech that I got around 200, which is EXTREMELY BAD, so I’m still proud. Not only did I improve in speech, but I also improved overall. From Region, I improved by 600 points overall which is really good. I didn’t do that great in science because I felt that I knew everything on the test and could’ve gotten a 1000 even, but I think that I was so stressed that I didn’t take it properly. But overall, I had a really great time and improved a lot. On the last night of the competition, we went to a restaurant on Riverwalk and it was really fun. We had ice cream, and then we played mafia and hide and seek with the Frisco school. It was extremely fun, but on the last day, I WAS STRESSED. My alarm did not work, so my friends and I woke up late. And, because I was in a hurry, I lost my retainers. During the award ceremony I didn’t care at all about whatever happened. The only thing I could think about were my retainers. I can’t describe the amount of stress I was in because of my retainers. When we reached the hotel, we had 10 mins to search for it. Everyone helped me and we looked for a lot of time, and then in the end, it was in my bad all along. This is what less sleep does to you. After that I slept the entire way back, finally free. San Antonio was the first trip I went too far from my parents. I was responsible, until the last day, but this was a great learning opportunity for me, and it was also fun!
